About us
Built by someone who's been there.
Nearly 20 years on the NHS frontline taught us what a first aid kit actually needs to do.
Aid on Assignment was founded by a currently serving NHS Ambulance Associate with nearly two decades of frontline experience, as well as 25 years of private event work — predominantly Equestrian. That background shapes everything from which products we stock to how we talk about first aid.
Working as an Ambulance Associate, you quickly learn the difference between a kit that looks the part and one that actually performs under pressure. Most off-the-shelf kits are built to a price point, not a standard. Cheap dressings that don't hold. Gloves that split. Scissors that won't cut through clothing.
We started Aid on Assignment to fix that. Every product we sell has been assessed against real clinical use — not just compliance checklists. If it wouldn't appear in my own kit bags at events or be used in my household on my family and children, it doesn't make it onto our shelves.
We're also serious about waste. The first aid industry generates a huge amount of single-use plastic and expired stock that never gets used. Our refill service exists to change that — top up what you need, replace what's expired, and stop throwing away perfectly good equipment. Where we can, we use biodegradable plastic bags to deliver refills — bags that go straight into your food waste or compost bin, not landfill.
All our workplace kits and refills are built to BS 8599-1:2019 — the key British Standard for workplace first-aid kits. Our vehicle kits meet BS 8599-2:2014, the standard for cars, vans and other vehicles. Compliance is the starting point, not the finish line.
Equestrian & Yard Supply
25 years in the saddle — and on the ground.
Alongside NHS frontline work, Aid on Assignment has spent over 25 years providing first aid cover at equestrian events, private yards, and riding establishments across the country. That experience gives us a genuine understanding of the risks riders, grooms, and yard managers face every single day.
Enquire about yard supplyHorses are unpredictable. Falls happen. Kicks happen. Crush injuries, lacerations, and fractures are a reality of working around large animals — and a standard office first aid kit simply isn't built for that environment. We know what a yard needs because we've worked in them, not just read about them.
Whether you run a livery yard, manage a competition yard, organise equestrian events, or simply keep horses at home, we can supply kits and refills that are genuinely fit for purpose. Robust enough for outdoor use. Stocked with the right dressings and wound care for the injuries that actually happen around horses.
We also understand the compliance side — from BS 8599-1 workplace requirements for your yard staff to vehicle kits for your horsebox or trailer. If you're not sure what you need, just ask. We'll give you a straight answer, not a sales pitch.
Family is everything.
Aid on Assignment might have my name behind it, but the reason I keep pushing it forward is much bigger than me. I'm doing this for my family — to build something we can be proud of, something with good values behind it, and hopefully something that will still mean something years from now.
My daughter reminds me that success isn't really about how much you sell, how busy you become or how big a business gets. It's about who you're doing it for and who is standing beside you along the way.
Everything I'm putting into this — the long hours, the ideas, the excitement, the occasional worry and probably far too many boxes of first-aid supplies — is about trying to create something positive for the people I love most.
Because businesses may come and go, money gets spent and life moves incredibly quickly… But family is the bit that really matters. Always.
And if one day my children look back and say, "Dad built that from nothing and he did it for us," then that will mean more to me than any amount of success ever could.
They are my reason. My motivation. And the most important thing I will ever have.
Our philosophy
Quality over compliance
Meeting British Standards is the floor, not the ceiling. Our workplace kits and refills are built to BS 8599-1:2019, and our vehicle kits to BS 8599-2:2014. We stock products that exceed those minimum requirements because real emergencies demand it.
Plain English, always
No jargon, no upselling, no scare tactics. We give you straight advice about what you need and why.
Eco-conscious refills
Why replace an entire kit when only the contents need refreshing? Our refill service keeps plastic boxes and bags out of landfill. Where we can, we use biodegradable packaging — bags that go straight into your food waste or compost bin. Reducing your carbon footprint doesn't have to be complicated.
Carbon footprint reduction for every business
Whether you're a sole trader or a large employer, switching from full kit replacements to targeted refills is a simple, measurable step towards reducing single-use plastic and waste. Small changes, made consistently, add up.
